The Oklahoma Sooners softball Regional home stand ended not only with OU victorious, but they did so in dominating fashion. The finals took place on Sunday, May 19, and Oklahoma faced Arkansas, who they had to withstand a comeback against the day before. There were no doubts this time around, as Oklahoma beat the Arkansas Razorbacks 14-1 in a five inning run rule.
The win was the 22nd time this season that the Oklahoma Sooners women’s softball team has won by a run rule. It also finished a weekend where OU beat three teams by a combined score of 41-6.
The star of the first two wins showed up in style again in the third and deciding game of the softball Regional in Norman. Lauren Chamberlain, who drove in ten RBIs in the first two games of the weekend drove in three more in this game with a three-run home run. The fans began to chant her name and she returned to the field to acknowledge them.
“I was like, ‘Wait, what? This is softball,” Chamberlain said of the curtain call. “I’ve only seen it at baseball games.”
With the win, the Oklahoma Sooners now head to the Super Regional for the sixth time in the last seven seasons. Their opponent is former Big 12 rival Texas A&M Aggies, who knocked off the Baylor Bears today.
