When the Oklahoma Sooners Red-White spring game took place, three quarterbacks to the field and tried to state the case for why they felt they should start for the Sooners in 2013. Blake Bell kept the lead in the race for the starting position, but Trevor Knight and Kendal Thompson made a good case for consideration as well. One of those quarterbacks might have just killed his chances, with Thompson the Sooners quarterback arrested in Norman.
This is not a deal killer for Thompson because the arrest was for public intoxication. Look back five years ago and you will see Ryan Broyles arrested after stealing gas from a closed service station by using a pass code he should not have possessed. Broyles was a freshman and bounced back strong, becoming the NCAA leading receiver before graduating and moving on to the NFL.
Thompson will not reach the level of Ryan Broyles, but this Sooners quarterback arrest won’t hurt Thompson as much as if he was busted drinking and driving or in possession of drugs. The arrest came on May 10 at a party where police were called after a noise complaint. They found Thompson sleeping in the grass, and when they woke him up Thompson tried to walk away and put up a “struggle” before police arrested him.
From the sound of it, Thompson passed out in the grass and was confused and incoherent when they woke him up. This Sooners quarterback arrested is not something that should cause too many problems for the future, although Thompson is only 20 and not of drinking age. At least he wasn’t drinking and driving.
A lot of people might look at this arrest and remember when his father Charles Thompson, another Sooners quarterback arrested who then spent time in prison for drugs. However, this is completely different and a son should never be judged by his father’s actions.
