The Oklahoma Sooners baseball team remained perfect on the season with a double-header sweep over Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Tuesday. The Sooners (6-0) came into the game, never having lost to UAPB (2-3), and then sent them home with the perfect record still intact. OU baseball took the first game with a 4-2 win, and then laid the smack down on the Golden Lions, 11-1, in the second game of the day.
“We are just a shell of what we can become. This club has a chance to be very, very special. I saw unbelievable energy the entire second game.” – OU head coach Sunny Golloway
The Sooners went with their fifth pitcher in five games when they sent out redshirt freshman Adam Choplick for the first game of the double header. He ended up lasting five innings, giving up only one hit and one unearned run, before leaving with the 3-1 lead. The Sooners added one more run and finished the game with the win. Jacob Evans picked up the save over two innings of one-hit ball.
OU hit .366 for the game, with the Sooners continuing to play incredible short ball. The Sooners hit four doubles and three triples in the game and remained in scoring position for much of the game. Infielders Matt Oberste and Kolbey Carpenter and outfielder Hunter Haley all finished with two hits for OU.
In the second game, Drew Kittenbrink got the start and pitched four scoreless innings for Oklahoma and then Dillon Overton came in and threw one inning of relief ball for the win. Oklahoma matched their season high for hits (12) and runs scored (11) in the win, led by Hector Lorenzana, who was 3-for-3 with two doubles, an RBI and a run scored. Matt Oberste went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run in the fifth inning.
OU baseball heads to Corpus Christi, Texas, this weekend for the 2013 Kleburg Bank College Classic.
