The loss of safety Tony Jefferson is a huge blow to the defense, and it may have taken another hit today. Oklahoma’s most experienced linebacker will forego his senior season.
That’s right, Tom Wort has declared for the 2013 NFL Draft. Apparently, Wort was not happy with the situation at Oklahoma, and per Jake Trotter, he will not be coming back.
I have confirmed through a source that OU LB Tom Wort will in fact declare for the NFL Draft

Now some of you may be thinking Wort did not have a sensational junior year. He had many ups and downs, and his last season at Oklahoma definitely does not help his stock.
However, he was the most seasoned of Oklahoma’s linebacking core and it is doesn’t help with OU’s Cotton Bowl loss leading to the de-commitment of 2013 linebacker Jordan Mastrogiovanni.
OU’s defense needs a lot of help and losing Wort will put a lot of pressure on Frank Shannon and a few other guys to step up next season.
It is yet to be seen where Wort ranks amongst this year’s linebacking class, and could have been a decent late round pick in 2014. Though, it is uncertain how high Wort can reach in this draft, but regardless, we wish him the best of luck.
