Early Sunday morning, OU’s day of bad luck began with an arrest. According to a Cleveland County police report, Jalen Saunders and Cortez Johnson were arrested at 2:34 a.m. on a complaint of possession of a controlled substance.
Saunders has been a big part of Oklahoma’s receiving rotation, but Johnson sat out this season after transferring from Arizona.
It is definitely not the way OU would have liked to start bowl season, and tema officials have yet to comment on the situation.
Best case scenario, Saunders and Johnson are punished in next season’s opener against UL-Monroe. It is isn’t like Johnson can play in the bowl game, so this is a viable option to punish both at the same time.
However, if Saunders is suspended for the bowl game, the Sooners will simply have to do without. The Sooner receiving corps is as deep as its ever been, but Saunders has been excelling lately and OU needs all the spark on their offense they can get.
