Game Capsule: Oklahoma Basketball vs. UT-Arlington

Tip-off: 7 p.m. CST

Location: College Parker Center – Arlington, TX

Television: Fox Sports Oklahoma (Cox 37)

Radio: KOKC-AM 1520 (Oklahoma City)

Why Oklahoma Will Win: After routing the UL-Monroe Warhawks in their season opener, Oklahoma basketball heads south for their first road trip of the year and should not have any problems. OU’s returning players looked good in the season opener, and a new class of freshmen look promising. Je’lon Hornbeak is certainly one to look out for as a newcomer and let’s see if Stephen Pledger can continue to light it up from the perimeter. This should be an easy win for the Sooners going up against a Mavericks team in their first season in the WAC.

Why UT-Arlington Will Win: In their home opener, the Mavs will want to impress. However, they will need a lot out of their team tonight. They shot horribly from the charity line in their two-point win over Cal State Bakersfield. It is unusual to see a team hold their opponent to a field goal percentage of 26%, which UT-Arlington did to Bakersfield. Also, they needed a last second basket from Jordan Reeves to give them the victory. Reeves should be an interesting match-up downlow for the Sooners, but UT-Arlington guard Jamel Outler will be a player to watch out for in his home debut for the Mavs. The Texas Tech transfer led the Mavericks in scoring last Friday with 15, and we’ll see if the Mavs can contend with Oklahoma.

Joe’s Prediction: Oklahoma in a blowout.
