According to Jason Kersey of The Oklahoman, Bob Stoops announced Gabe Ikard has been cleared to play Saturday following his absence in the Baylor game.
The junior from Oklahoma City stepped in as the starting center after Ben Habern’s career ended at Oklahoma right before the start of the season. Through eight games, Ikard was a key leader on an offensive line with virtually no depth.
Last week, Ikard did not play due to a concussion, though, freshman Ty Darlington was superb as the starting center in Oklahoma’s 42-34 win over the Bears in Norman.
With Ikard good to go Saturday, OU gets back a tremendous lineman, though, it is unclear if he will be limited at all.
Honestly, though, Ty Darlington is quite the backup. Even if it was the Baylor Bears, West Virginia’s defense is not much better. And there is no question if OU is thin on offensive linemen. They are.
However, with Ty Darlington’s performance against Baylor, maybe OU has a little more talent than we thought, and really either would fine options Saturday. Though, obviously, Ikard back is huge and it is great he was only out a week.
